Get the best of both worlds – Traditional/ Digital Marketing

I see so much correlation between Spices & Herbs vis-à-vis Traditional & Digital Marketing. It is said a good chef enjoys cooking a lot more once (s)he has mastered the herb and spice basics. Likewise, a good marketer knows exactly how to blend Traditional and Digital marketing to achieve best ROI.

Traditional marketing is not only one of the oldest forms of marketing, but also one of the most researched. The marketing strategy that served as the core of traditional marketing involved an overall game plan for reaching prospective customers.  Marketers lean towards this method because it’s tried and true.

Digital marketing on the other hand, offers a promise of anytime, anywhere with a reach that break cultural, technological, and societal shifts around us. Not only is digital marketing sometimes more cost-effective than traditional, but it is also a more direct way to connect with target audiences globally.

There was an interesting WhatsApp forward doing the rounds, which shows a father asking his son for a laptop as his canvasses had exhausted. He wanted to paint. He had run out of canvasses. Switching to digital painting seemed like a simple solution. It was then that the son pointed out one of the fundamental differences between physical & digital painting. In physical painting, mixing all colours gives you black, whereas in digital painting, it gives you white.

Traditional marketing vis-à-vis Digital Marketing, use different techniques and give different set of results. While it is imperative to use the digital medium to reach out to a larger audience, businesses cannot totally drift away from traditional marketing.

Can they work together?

Well, absolutely! There’s a time and place for both marketing strategies. For example, traditional marketing methods still remain the best way to reach out to local target audience. Your marketing strategy can be a blend of traditional as well as digital marketing. A mix of both strategies to market effectively. Some businesses may benefit from choosing one over the other, all in all, both traditional and digital marketing can thrive harmoniously. It is after all a mix of both spices and herbs that helps you rustle up the best recipes!
